KEEP IN TOUCH WITH THE CHIEF
CIRCLE
If you want to be on the cutting
edge of what God is doing among the Native peoples in the bush country of
the arctic, or the rural and urban areas of North America, or hear of the
great gatherings in the mountains and jungles of Latin and South America,
keep in touch through our CHIEF email updates.
HOLDING HIGH GOD'S WORD TO OUR NATIVE NATIONS!!
July 2008
Dear Friend of CHIEF ,
I am so grateful for your love and compassion for our Native American/First
Nations people. My heart bleeds for the way Satan has held many of our
tribes in his grip for thousands of years. Will they ever be set free?
Yes, they will if we keep faithfully holding forth the Word of Life and
patiently demonstrating the love of Jesus before them. Through your
loving kindness, intercessory prayers and financial support our CHIEF team
members are going to scores of reservations, colonies, villages and camps
throughout the Americas this summer to preach and teach God's word. Thank
you for being a vital part of our CHIEF Team.
150 APACHE INDIANS COME TO CHRIST
The Lord opened a great door of opportunity to arrange a reservation-wide
basketball clinic on the White Mountain reservation located in Northeastern
Arizona. Bay Forrest, a six foot seven inch, former player for the Phoenix
Suns was there to give his testimony and share the gospel. Three robust
football players came from the famous Oklahoma Sooner team to tell their
conversion stories. The entire basketball team and coach from Southwestern
College in Phoenix, Arizona came to witness for Christ and help train the youth
in basketball. Praise God, for all the effort Brian and Nikki Kirby and
our other CHIEF Team members put into this outreach because the Lord rewarded us
one hundred and fifty fold.
DISCIPLESHIP SESSION FOR 50 NATIVE WOMEN
The women came from the Quechan, Yuma, Apache, Navajo, Hopi, Hualapai,
Cherokee and Kiowa tribes. Bernita Gunn, wife of Dr. Julian Gunn (former
CHIEF Chairman for 20 years) from Albuquerque, New Mexico was our speaker.
She spoke from her heart on the topic, "Searching the Scriptures for God's
treasures" taken from Matthew 6:33. Bernita emphasized the discipline that
must be a part of our daily lives to read God's Word, to obey God's Word and to
live God's Word. The women were truly blessed and went home with a great
insight into the Bible and with a strong desire to find God's Treasures and
share it with their friends and family.
HELP FOR HOPI BELIEVERS
When you meet the very gracious, humble, happy Hopi Indians... you can't
help but love them. Even if you're a stranger, they'll invite you into
their home and give you a drink of water to quench your thirst from traveling
across the desert to reach their villages on the mesas. Some will even
start cooking a meal for your refreshment. Their kindness is overwhelming!
For more than 100 years missionaries from three
denominations have faithfully preached the Word of God to them. But most
of the Hopis still adhere to their own religion. It has been a struggle to
break through the strong teaching about their spirit guides, called kachinas.
Only a small number in the tribe have come to know Christ. If the Hopis
live on the mesas when they accept Christ, they are persecuted and some are even
asked to leave their mesas, homes, family and friends.
Today there are approximately seven evangelical
churches on the reservation for 10,000 Hopis in the tribe. During the past
year CHIEF has heard the Macedonian call, "Come over and help us" (Acts 16:9).
Many of the Hopi believers talked with CHIEF about the desperate need for
pastors and teachers in their churches.
We were glad that CHIEF could help by sending
our staff member, Nick to fill in at least once a month until we can arrange for
some student interns from Phoenix Seminary this fall. PLEASE PRAY FOR THE
HOPIS!
240 QUECHUA INDIANS CONFESS CHRIST AS LORD
Praise God for the
spiritual harvest being reaped among the Quechua Indians in Peru!! Our
CHIEF staff members, Joshua and Missy were instrumental in translating the Jesus
film into the Quechua language and now they are assisting in showing the Indian
version to the villages high in the Andes mountains. This last month they
had 8 showings, 1,450 in attendance and 240 praying to ask Jesus to come into
their hearts. Please pray for Native pastors, Lorenzo, Hector, Willy and
Freddy.
Once again, the greatest need in Native
American Missions today is to EVANGELIZE those in need, DISCIPLE the new
believers, TRAIN pastors and Native Christian leaders and STRENGTHEN the
indigenous church. THIS IS THE VISION OF CHIEF! THIS IS THE MINISTRY OF
CHIEF! THIS IS THE PURPOSE OF CHIEF! Will you help us get the job done?
We need your involvement today!!
Yours Because We’re His
