Dear Friends:

We only thought we were going to get back to normal! The Lord had other plans for us. On Tues. Jan 10th we got a call from our Granddaughter Hannah who lives in Virginia Beach with her husband Sam. Her baby was due Feb 19th but that day they were inducing her labor and Sadie Anne was to come 6 weeks early. I had hardly hung up the phone from her when our son Kendall (her father) called to ask if there was any way I could come and stay with him and his sons so his wife Tina could go to be with Hannah. AS you recall he had knee replacement on Dec 19th and is not able to drive yet. Well Steve was going to Ringold, Ok on Thursday so I told him I could tag along and stay with them until Dad returned on Monday. At 1:45 on Thursday morning Sadie Anne arrived 4# 10 oz. with lungs that still needed a little development. She was put into ICU and placed on a c-pap machine to help her breathing and watched very closely, she then got jaundice and had to be under lights for about 36 hours. Hannah finally got to hold her on Sunday evening and Sadie opened her eyes and took in the new world around her. She is now still on oxygen but very little and is being fed by a tube but she is improving every day. She will remain in the hospital until she is breathing on her own and has gained some weight. We returned home on Tuesday evening and are getting back to normal again.

Steve plans to be out next week making some new contacts in the area to reach some pastors for his school. He hopes to get started within the month on some classes.

We appreciate your love and concern for us and our Native friends. Thanks for your prayers, we would appreciate your prayers for Hannah and little Sadie as she continues to improve and grow. Hannah is running back and forth to the hospital to feed her and be able to hold her and start that bonding process.

We are looking forward to a great 2012 and are praying for lots of new contacts and classes.

Dear Friends and Family:

As we reflect over this last year we are reminded again and again of the faithfulness of God in our lives. It has been a year like we have never experienced before. On January 20 Steve entered the VA hospital for his first knee replacement. He had never been in the hospital before so was a very new experience for him. We were so pleased with the care he received and our Doctor was wonderful. He was in the hospital about 5 days and then came the recuperation at home. He was able to get out after about two weeks which really amazed us and then started the physical therapy at the VA once a week and then at the gym on his own. All the while his other knee was deteriorating quickly. By August at his six month checkup he told the Dr. He was ready to get the other one done, so on October 20 he went in for the second one and is now in the physical therapy phase of getting this one back to normal. So many were praying for him and he has done amazingly well. With two new knees he will be ready to get back to his work that he loves. Now as for Chris, she has been the nurse and driver and caregiver for Jaden (3). We had our family reunion this year at our house here in Rio Rancho. There were 12 of us and it was very cozy. We had wall to wall beds, but it was just fun to be together. Kendall’s family did not make it or we would have had 17. We took in many of the sights of Albuquerque and made a trip to Durango, CO to go to the Bar D Chuckwagon which was great fun. Our family has expanded this year as our oldest granddaughter Hannah married Sam McBath in May. They live in Virginia Beach and will present us with our first Great-Granddaughter Sadie Ann to be born in February. Once again our family will expand. Steve, Jr., Melanie, Jonah (18) Emma (14) and Caleb (9) still live in New Jersey and continue to work with Albanians. Melanie is still home schooling the children so they are a busy family. Kendall, Tina, Austin (16) and Noah (6) are in Oklahoma City. They are very active in their church and with the boy’s school. Tina is also in school almost halfway through. I already to you about Hannah, their oldest. Shanda, Nathan, Cody (14) and Savannah (10) are in Macon, GA. Shanda is in her 16th year of teaching at Central Fellowship Academy and Nathan is now a Polygraph technician with the Macon police dept and also head of Central Records. They too are very active with their church and manage to stay busy with school activities as well. Jaden and Kristen are with us and Jaden is in Head Start this year and loves going to school. He is in school from 8:30 to 2:30, so Grandma has time to get a few things done around the house. Kristen is almost finished with her Associates Degree in Health Information Technology and will graduate in May. She has done very well and hopes to find a job here in Albuquerque and be able to get her own place.

Our ministry with CHIEF continues on. It has been hear to make much headway this year with two surgeries for Steve but he has been able to do a lot of lesson preparation for CHIEF Bible Institute and has some new leads for teaching on the reservation as well as here in Albuquerque. He has able to get two sessions in this year between his surgeries. He has also had toe opportunity to teach at Indian Bible College and on the Choctaw Reservation.

We want to wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We are so blessed to have you in our lives. Many of you we don’t see very often but we know our friendship is always there. Thanks for your prayers and support for us. Please continue to pray for complete healing of both knees and for our Native friends who need to know the Lord.

Steve is back in Flagstaff this week teaching his class on Spiritual Leadership. I went with him last week and we had a little time to see Flagstaff and surrounding areas. He has three students in his class and one of them is a pastor from Tuba City, AZ. This has been a great contact and they are talking about Steve coming to his church to teach. He will finish the class next week, he has really enjoyed the time there.</

The end of the month he will head to Ringold, OK to teach and attend board meetings at Native American Bible Ministries, with Dr. Leonard Rascher. This is in Choctaw Country. I am hoping to go with him this week as well, depending on finding someone to watch Jaden while I am gone.

We have had no word yet on a date for his next surgery, it takes time to get on the schedule at the VA so we must be patient. We are very anxious to get this done so that he can get back to being able to do all the things he wants too!

We have been back from conference for little over a week and what a great time we had. We got to see folks we hadn’t seen for years and at least a little time to visit. We enjoyed being back with our Grace Brethren friends, we miss that since we have no Grace Brethren churches near us. Jaden was a great traveler and made it just fine without Mom for 11 days. Not sure Mom did so well, she was sure glad to see us. We had not planned to go to Winona Lake but when we got to conference we were told that Pastor Charles Ashman was not doing to well so we took an extra day and went to see him. He has been Steve’s mentor since seminary days and like a father to him in many ways. We were sad to see that he really wasn’t doing well and were glad we took the extra time to stop there on our way home. Please pray for him and Francis, his health is not good at all.</

It looks like Steve will not have any classes in August at the Carlisle Church so he is busy getting ready to teach at Indian Bible College the whole month of September. He will teach a class on Christian Leadership. He will drive back and forth each week for four weeks. Then he goes to Ringold, OK the first week of October for his teaching with the Choctaw, at Dr. Rascher’s school.

We see the orthopedic doctor tomorrow and have now decided if he can schedule him Steve will have his next surgery in October. His right knee is reall causing him trouble now and he would like to get this done and over with so he can be back in full swing by Jan 1. We will let you know how that comes out.

She is married to Sam and they are now living in Virginia Beach. They have settled into their apartment and Sam is stationed at Norfolk Naval Hospital. He is training to be a corman. We were really tired after the trip, is a long way to go for only a few days, but we wouldn’t have missed it.

We are preparing for all of our children to be here in July for our yearly family reunion. Yes they are all staying at our house will be 16 in all. Can hardly wait to see them. We only see them about once a year so the kids have all grown inches.

Thanks so much for your prayers and support of our ministry, we appreciate it and feel your prayers. God has blessed us with a multitude of friends across the United States.

Our dear friends and partners in ministry,

The summer has passed very quickly and we are enjoying the opportunities that the fall brings for ministry opportunities. Since our last report to you, I have been involved with trying to establish our Bible Institute ministry. We previously reported to you the devised curriculum. I was able to share that, as well, with several other missionaries for their input. All the responses were positive. I especially prized the input of Dr. Leonard Rascher in Oklahoma, when I was teaching there last fall. He confirmed we were on the right track and showed me a similar curriculum he had devised.,

This past June, I was able to begin the training in the discipleship quadrant with a course in the “Confirmation of the Gospel,” where for several weeks we studied the gospel that Jesus and the early church preached. There were six permanent students and several were in and out for each session. Pastor Tim Tsoodle of Carlisle Community (Indian Baptist) Church in Albuquerque has consented to be my sponsor for these opening classes.,

In July, we took vacation in the east at my son’s home in New Jersey. I drove so that I could make contact with donors on the way home. I contacted several of our supporters in Pennsylvania and was able to attend our denomination’s annual conference in Cincinnati, Ohio. As Grace Brethren, most of our support comes from GB churches. This took most of July to complete.,

Because the summer was slow, I spent time in August and early September developing classes for the Institute. I now have classes prepared for The Story of the Bible, The Kerygma: the gospel of the early church, The Kingdom of God in Scripture, and Spiritual Leadership. Presently, I am completing a new four week course on the Enemies of the Christian Life: Suffering, the World, the Flesh, and the Devil. I will begin teaching this class this third week of September.,

In addition to the studies necessary for class preparation, I have taken training in the Logos Bible Computer Software this summer. This very sophisticated program is allowing me to undertake my studies in a much easier and quicker mode, allowing me to complete my class preparation in less time.,

My future vision is to enhance the already fine work being done by CHIEF with a depth of teaching that will build up leaders for the native churches. There is such a desperate need. Additionally, I hope to write some commentaries that are especially suited for our native leaders and will help them become even better teachers of God’s word. As many do, I have always operated under the assumption that no real growth in Christianity takes place outside the teaching of the Word, for faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.,

We were very pleased to have visitors and supporting friends drop by this year.
Dr. Steve Galegor is the Southwest trainer for CHIEF’s “School without Walls.” Steve is a graduate of Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana. He holds a Master of Divinity degree and a Doctor of Ministries degree, with major studies in intercultural ministries. Steve is an ordained elder in the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches and has ministered among Native Americans for over twenty years.

Steve was born in Missouri, while his dad was finishing college. After college they moved to Ardmore, then Oklahoma City, where Steve grew up. Chris was born and raised in Oklahoma City. Chris has relatives and in-laws who are Native Americans. Oklahoma has the largest population of Native Americans in the US, but like most Americans, the Galegors grew up oblivious to their needs. After Grace Seminary, Steve worked for Grace Brethren Home Missions, where he had some responsibility with Grace Brethren Navajo Mission. On a visit with Chris to the mission, they felt their call to service with Native Americans. After raising support, they joined the mission staff in 1989 where their daughter Shanda became one of the few white graduates of Grace Christian Indian School. In 1991, Steve became the director of the ministry and labored in church planting and Bible training among the churches in New Mexico and Arizona, while being the superintendent of Grace Christian Indian School. In 1999, the ministry headquarters were moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, because of the movement of Native Americans to urban centers and to concentrate more on church planting. In 2007, Steve and Chris joined the ministry of Christian Hope Indian Eskimo Ministry (C.H.I.E.F., Inc.) to be more involved with leadership development among Native American leaders.
Our dear friends and partners in ministry,

Recently, I, Steve, participated in CHIEF’s Native Christian Leadership Forum in Phoenix. These meetings are monthly to benefit Native pastors, lay leaders, Native students, missionaries, and board members of Native ministries in that area. The meetings are held at Phoenix Seminary. I team taught with my friend and fellow teacher, Rev. Ben Yazzie. We spoke on administration of the local church. Many of these pastors and leaders have not had the benefit of training in these areas. I have a special interest in teaching these leaders how to prepare messages that are scriptural and can help in the deepening of the individual and church. Ben is especially good at teaching the nuts and bolts of running a church.

Native Bible Institute is a way of addressing the critical need for leaders among the Native American churches. The few churches who have leaders often fail to grow because the leaders are overworked. NBI hopes to give these leaders the encouragement and training they need, as well as, raise up new leaders to stand with them.

Through NBI, we are hoping to develop an ordered learning cycle, where classes build upon one another, so as to add depth to the educational and practical training of those who desire to be leaders.

Since leaders come from the ranks of mature, believing disciples, the foundational cycle is for developing disciples out of any who desire the training. This is intended, however, to create a pool out of which leaders will arise for the Native Christian churches.

Last report we asked for your prayers for the Native Bible Institute. We had a kick-off in late May with our President, Huron Claus. Huron and I addressed several church leaders about the opportunity of some solid Bible teaching at NBI.

On June 15th, we began with 8 students. We began with the first course in the Discipleship series, “Confirming the Gospel: the Gospel of the early church.” From passages like Acts 10:34-43, the class compared the gospel we often preach today to the one Peter and Paul preached in apostolic times. The early Church’s gospel was full of Scripture, expanding upon the prophecies of the Old Testament, and centering upon the death, and resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ. This will be the first in the series which will emphasize the foundations of the Christian faith. The classes are intended to build upon each other in the manner of a catechism. This should give each student a good grounding in the essentials of leadership in their churches. I am writing these courses myself and testing them as I go. Feedback is essential from the students, but many have not taken this kind of course before. There is much interest, but not so much commitment. Pray!
