Dear Friends:

THANKSGIVING wishes to you and yours as we consider all of God’s goodness to each of us from day to day!

God wonderfully answered your prayers for David as he taught in Malawi this past July.

• He spoke at a missions conference,
• Preached in one church to 5,000 plus people,
• Spoke to over 2,000 needy prisoners,
• Taught pastors ministering to 65,000 people.

The needs for teaching are great and the response overwhelming. Please PRAY for the church in Malawi experiencing some real trials.

In a previous letter we wrote about a movement of God’s Spirit among Native American young people called, “On Eagles’ Wings”. Youth, who are coming to salvation, have a growing burden to reach their own people on the reservations. Some are realizing the need for Bible training. Toward that end, they are enrolling in three different Bible Schools around the country. We, from CHIEF, are teaching twice yearly at Mokahum Indian Bible School in Minnesota. Others are in Flagstaff, AZ and Oklahoma.

In October David taught Old Testament Survey in two weeks time to eight students. Carolyn and I together developed two charts that gave the students a simplified, visual aid to help understand God’s eternal redemptive plan as it unfolded through Old Testament persons and events.

During the course one student experienced strong spiritual attacks. God wonderfully intervened answering prayers for her deliverance. That and other opportunities for interaction with the students provided many opportunities for informal counseling and relationship building.

Just know how we value your PRAYERS!!

Hugh and David just returned from yet another week of teaching at the Potter’s Place in Vancouver, B.C. Located on Hastings Street, considered by many one of the most dangerous streets in all of North America, Potter’s Place has a strategic outreach seeking to meet physical and spiritual needs of unloved, overlooked people. In addition, they are offering teaching and training for those sharing their outreach vision. Ten Korean and three First Nation people attended the classes that Hugh and David taught on missions and evangelism. Both courses were timely as the group had just returned from a mission trip to a Reserve and their hearts were prepared to better understand that to which God is calling them.

Each evening David shared during a worship service held for people coming in off the streets. Following the service, we offer to prayer for any who might make that request. One night, following David’s message on Lazarus and the rich man, three came asking for prayer. We prayed and counseled with two drug addicts and a prostitute. Do PRAY they will follow through at the Potter’s Place and seek God’s deliverance.

A return visit to The Colony Fellowship in Reno is scheduled for the middle of November. And already the winter and spring 2012 schedule is nearly complete. As you think of us, we offer the following for PRAYER:

• Continued safety in travel

• Teaching at Flagstaff Indian Bible College during the entire month of January

• For Carolyn as she maintains correspondence and keeps things running at home

• For possible expanding teaching opportunities in Canada and Alaska

OUR APPRECIATION AND BLESSINGS!

On a recent visit to the Warm Springs Reservation in Eastern Oregon, our hearts were thrilled and encouraged as we connected with the Youth Ministry, “On Eagle’s Wings”. A group of approximately fifty Native American teenagers travels from one reservation to another sharing with other teens their love for the Lord Jesus and challenging them to commit their lives to the life changing truths of the Gospel. They reported that nearly fifty teens on the Yakima Reservation and another fifty on the Warm Springs Reservation indicated a desire to know Jesus as their Savior.

The great need now is that these young people be discipled in God’s Word and that their interest and desire be brought to full fruition resulting in a strong faith and commitment to our Lord Jesus. One of the strongest hopes for reaching the Native American peoples lies in reaching the youth with the Gospel. Please pray that God will continue His good work in their lives and that they can stand strong against the prevalent evils of drugs, alcohol, and suicide. Pray that a vital discipleship ministry will be available to them.

Dear Family and Friends,

This spring, while digging in the earth; planting seeds, watering and watching for new growth, I, (Carolyn) have reflected on what a great visual example we have of the work to which God has called us. So often we feel as if we prepare the soil and plant the seeds; return to water and eagerly anticipate growth. Some seeds grow quickly and most often others grow slowly. My prayer often is, “Lord, we can plant, we can water, we can nourish and weed; but only you can produce the results.”

During these winter and spring months we have been returning regularly to places we have conducted SWW as well as opening new teaching opportunities.

• In February, Hugh and I ,(David) returned to the McKinley Mission on the Yakima Reservation. We have developed on-going relationships with the people there and are always welcome to teach the Word and enjoy their bounteous potlucks of salmon and wild game.

• Huron Claus and I visited Native leaders and shared at the Indian Revival Center in Los Angeles. I have been asked to return in the fall to teach a SWW. We also taught a class at Biola University where we discovered thirty Native students in attendance. In the fall, I will return to the University and meet with those students with a goal of sharing a vision to reach Native people in the Los Angeles area.

• We returned to Carson City and Reno, NV in March to encourage the believers in those fellowships. Please pray for unity and love among the believers. God is at work, but the enemy would seek to discourage.

• We took ten youth and five adults from our home church to Vancouver, B.C. during spring break to minister to Native and Korean students at the Potter’s Place. We shared in worship and teaching of the Word. The team had many opportunities to minister to homeless people and to share the good news of salvation with them.

• I taught a return SWW at Mokahum Indian School in Northern Minnesota with a joyful side visit to our son and family in Wisconsin. You may recall our sharing that a student, named Jonathan, from the Mokahum SWW was enrolling in an internship program at the camp/conference center at which our son is on staff. As a Native American, he and his wife have a burden to begin a Christian camping program for Native American youth. Without my knowledge, Jonathan was graduating from that program the weekend I was visiting. Neither did I know that he had included me in his required written biography as a mentor who had greatly influenced his life. God obviously and wonderfully planned that I could be there for his graduation which overjoyed Jonathan. My son, Dave, and I had the privilege to pray for Jonathan and his wife, at their graduation, as they now pursue their calling to reach Native youth.

• In April, I spent a weekend at the CHIEF conference held at Wheaton College. The purpose of the conference was to prepare for Native American ministry in Chicago. A team has been assembled of Native students from Moody Bible Institute and Trinity Evangelical Divinity Seminary who will give leadership to this outreach.

• Boldbaator, our Mongolian disciplee in Seattle, is helping me prepare a summer outreach on the Warm Springs Reservation. Plans are for a Mongolian church to be involved in this ministry.

PRAYER REQUESTS

• Summer outreach on the Warm Springs Reservation
• Very full Fall teaching schedule already on the calendar
• Trip to Peru to teach a SWW among many Quechua pastors.

Love and Gratefulness to you, our Partners,
