THE VISION AND MISSION OF CHIEF
The vision of CHIEF is to see an
effective Christian witness in every Native American tribe and all related
tribes in this generation. The mission of CHIEF is to disciple and train a
strong Native American Christian leadership in the Word of God, who in turn will
reach and reproduce a vibrant growing indigenous church.

A PORTRAIT OF THE GENERAL NEED
The Native American, once known as the "First People" of this magnificent land,
now hold the dubious title of America's "Forgotten People."
In North America, there are close to 2.5 Million Native Americans
representing 250 Native languages. Statistics show that the majority (over
63%) of Native Americans dwell in large cities. As an example, Los Angeles
has as many Native Americans as the entire state of Alaska. In many of
these cities where the largest cluster of Native Americans live, there is not
one Native Christian church to minister to the needs of the people. And
the needs are many.

EMPOWERING NATIVE LEADERSHIP THROUGH MENTORSHIP
CHIEF views the
discipleship, mentoring and training of Native Christian leaders in a culturally
relevant context as the key to effective church growth and on-going evangelism
among Native peoples. Many Native pastors and lay leaders are unable to receive
Bible training in formal institutions of learning.

REACHING MORE THROUGH NEW TRAINING APPROACH - CHIEF SCHOOL WITHOUT WALLS
In 1986, CHIEF established the Chief Shepherd Discipleship Center on an eight
acre campus in Phoenix, Arizona. Our commitment has been to teach and
train Native American pastors, church leaders and lay people in the Fundamentals
of the Faith, discipleship methods and Biblical courses that address cultural
issues facing Christian Natives today.
In 1996, CHIEF started its off-campus
training, "School Without Walls." These training sessions have been taught
in churches, schools, and community centers on reservations, villages and in
urban areas across the Americas.

Awareness Workshops are designed for individuals, churches, para-church
organizations, businesses, and agencies wishing to learn more about Native
American people and their cultures. With better understanding participants will
be able to better serve their clients and employees and help promote racial
harmony and effective ministry among Native citizens.

RESOURCES FOR NATIVE AMERICAN MINISTRIES
Often the
response to Christianity among Native people is "It's the White man's Gospel,"
yet when truly observed Jesus' people were very similar in a variety of ways.
As a result, there are a number of resources developed in reaching the Native
American community.
